Language and behaviour profiling

The key to effective communication is recognising and understanding how people differ. Motivational triggers can be identified from simple conversation, revealing an individual’s preferred working style.

This fascinating workshop helps master influential language. Anyone who wants to be a charismatic leader will benefit from learning how to customise language for specific individuals and groups to trigger motivation and even change people’s minds.

Brand auditing

An organisation that promotes its values and beliefs must live them day-to-day, otherwise there is a likelihood they will meet with customer complaints.

This process helps organisations map out a strategy, recommending and delivering training and coaching. The end result is consistent communication in every department throughout the company, delivering the right message to the outside world.

Advanced communication techniques

Words are not the only means of communication. Some research claims that 90 per cent of communication is at a level below conscious awareness. When you know what’s going on under the surface, you can build the skills to become a confident and effective communicator.

Self-management understand yourself first

Self-management skills allow the individual to choose or engineer the most appropriate attitude or focus with which to enter a situation. This is the process by which you lead yourself.

  • Learn about your unique way of communicating
  • Clarify and focus your thinking
  • Develop a clear, confident style of communication
  • Set clear outcomes for communication
  • Learn to plan, organise and deliver effective messages face-to-face, on the phone and in writing
  • Use feedback for constant improvement
  • Develop your thinking skills, both strategic and systemic

Understanding other people

With relational skills, people have the ability to understand, motivate and communicate with others. With a full understanding of another person’s perception of the world, you can establish a rapport and guide that person to recognise other perspectives, problems or objectives. Such skills are essential to leadership and team building.

  • Practise advanced questioning skills
  • How to get specific information
  • How to make sense of ambiguous language
  • Develop active listening skills
  • Interpret body language and other non-verbal communication
  • Understand the dynamics of relationships at work
  • Recognise people’s thinking patterns from the language they use
  • Understand what motivates them
  • Identify how they prefer to work
  • Understand how they make decisions

Influencing skills

  • Learn the language of leadership
  • Create compelling messages for any audience

The process

Opening: establish rapport - get consensus for negotiation - establish the other party’s outcome

Managing Written Communication

A one-day workshop

One-to-one and groups

The Aim

  • To make managers aware of how their team’s written output fits in with the organisation’s brand language
  • To take responsibility for editing their team’s writing in line with brand values, not editing to individual and idiosyncratic stylistic choices
  • To give writers confidence that there are shared team values for communicating
  • To provide explanations about language that managers can use to coach their teams to write in line with brand values

Additional aims:

  • The workshop is presented in language that fulfils brand values - providing an example of how such values can be communicated
  • The course looks at conveying brand values in behavioural terms, as well as written skills. Delegates will become aware of their role in living the brand values through all channels - face-to-face, on the phone, in writing and online

What the workshop covers

The workshop covers all aspects of writing. Delegates will understand the principles of writing, not only as best practice but in conveying brand values. This valuable information they can pass on to their teams.

Additional modules to help delegates:

  • Provide verbal explanations as to why documents required editing, enabling team writers to recognise what is required and learn for future reference
  • Recognise the best way of coaching individuals within their teams, if necessary

Planning to write

Techniques that produce a perfect document every time:

  • Know how your team learns - and how to best coach them
  • Essential questions to help people plan any document

Organising material

  • Mind maps
  • ‘Coat hanger plans’ for complex documents
  • Analysing the types of information in your documents

Writing

  • How to produce accurate, brief and clear documents that get results
  • Avoid grammar pitfalls that weaken the brand voice
  • Establish a house style for punctuation and spelling
  • Getting the company ‘tone of voice’ right

Editing

Techniques that change a draft into a professional text:

  • Using a computerised grammar check effectively
  • Monitoring the brand voice
  • Spotting and correcting ambiguities
  • Avoiding a bureaucratic tone

Revising

How to proof-read professionally

Action plan

Delegates will plan how to put into practice what they have covered in the workshop

Follow-up

After three months, the workshop leader will liaise with delegates:

  • To check they have put into practice the points in their action plans
  • To ensure they understand all points covered in the seminar
  • To answer any questions their teams have about brand language
  • To provide coaching for any teams that need it
